Grief and Loss…

By Friends of Kevin, March 30, 2010 8:58 pm

Towards the end of Kevin’s battle, I went through a troubled pregnancy and loss my son Ethan at 36 weeks old, two months before Kevin passed away.

When you experience despair and hardship, terrible loss and grief, you look for help in many places and one of the places that strenghtened my faith and eased my pain was in the example that Kevin set. He had such dignity and beautiful grace that I often pray to Kevin to thank him for the impact he had on me and ask for continued strength.

Thank you Healeys for sharing Kevin with us.

A Picture is worth…

By Friends of Kevin, March 17, 2010 1:12 am

After Kevin’s funeral, I cut out his picture from the mass booklet. I keep it on my sun visor in my car. My passengers and friends who didn’t know Kevin ask who it is. I get to share Kevin’s story and I am reminded of the times we spent together at St. Angela’s. Thank you for being apart of my life! =)

Queen of Heaven Watches Over Kevin

By Friends of Kevin, November 19, 2009 2:05 am

I learned of Kevin’s fight against his cancer from my son, Connor, who lived with Kevin in Sorin College at Notre Dame. Sorin literally sits in the shadow of the Golden Dome with Our Lady looking down on the young men who live there as they go about their lives. I prayed to Mary, mother to mother, to intercede for Kevin.

Kevin’s devotion to Our Lady was so apparent and I am certain that she was there to welcome him home when his time here was done. I visit the Grotto whenever I go to Notre Dame and I light a candle in memory of Kevin and his great faith.

A seat is reserved for Kevin in the chapel at Sorin and he will forever be a son of Notre Dame, Our Mother. It is a comfort to me to know that a great young man is watching over my son and all the Sorin men from his place in heaven, just like Our Lady watches over them from her place as Queen of Heaven.

Kevin, please help us…

By Friends of Kevin, September 24, 2009 10:56 am

Hi Kevin, your St. Ignatius community has been rocked with sadness this weekend. Please help all of us to show love and comfort to the hurting. May your intercessions give strength to those who grieve. Thank you Kevin for your example of loving faith. May we emulate you as we comfort and pray for each other.

Don’t Complain about your problems…

By Friends of Kevin, August 24, 2009 12:22 pm

Every complaint I have is meaningless. Every day I think about how much Kevin suffered for so long, courageously. With three healthy children, anything I regard a ‘problem’ is simply ridiculous. I will always admire Kevin and his family for their strength and faith.

LIFE IS SHORT

By Friends of Kevin, August 10, 2009 5:46 pm

I was lucky enough for Kevin to be a part of my family. I didn’t see him much, but i have never been so affected by anyone else, ever. I know now that life is too short to just sit around and not do anything. 20 years and 11 days is all Kevin needed to convey his message, and he sure did.

I miss him so much that it hurts, but I just remember that LIFE IS SHORT! and I will see him again someday.

[: I love you.

Teach Us Your Wisdom

By Friends of Kevin, July 26, 2009 6:25 pm

Tom and Ann,

We learned more about our faith and things that we never new as as Catholics, while visiting your website. Your posts about Kevin kept us updated, but your theological insights helped us be stronger. As Catholics we fall into a routine. We pray and we go to church. Kevin gave us a reason to pray.

Many don’t know why we need to pray or how to pray for an intention. What novena’s do we pray now? How many really understood the Chaplet of Mercy? For many of the children of the ‘60 -70’s, we are just now understanding. I learned more about my own faith and how to become one with God, through Kevin’s website. I miss the daily website check in and feel the loss of not only Kevin, but of the Healey message.

Please consider posting more often and teach us what is important and relative to our faith.

Thank you.

The Power of Prayer

By Friends of Kevin, July 24, 2009 8:18 pm

I was reminded of the power of prayer. My daughter has experienced debilitating migraines for years. After many doctor visits, prescription medications (all with terrible side affects) and increased frustration; we found a doctor who prescribed natural supplements.

Overall things have improved – but she still experiences some tremendous headaches. About 3 weeks ago she had an aura (visual impairment indicating a migraine is about to occur) and I prayed to Kevin (remembering from his website his Mother’s invitation to pray to him)… my daughter had one of the most mild migraines she has ever experienced.

Two days later, another aura, another prayer to Kevin, and another very mild migraine. Three weeks passed and just a few days ago another aura, another prayer, and again another mild migraine. Perhaps for numerous reasons she experienced much milder symptoms. I believe Kevin assisted with his prayer for her … the power of prayer is very strong – thank you Kevin for reminding me.

Theology in Real Life

By Friends of Kevin, July 16, 2009 2:40 pm

There is only so much that can be learned in the classroom.

The classroom is a place for going through the motions, and real life is where those motions turn into reality. We often forget theology in times of crisis, but what has happened here has well changed the course of each life Kevin touched. He altered the view of theology and life itself for so many people.

In his own, very public, suffering we saw a very human side of theology, one of pain, one of anguish. Jesus himself went through much pain on the cross for us and, as Kevin did, died in a way where he gave that suffering to help those whom he loved.

Kevin taught me more about morality than his father did so many years ago. He taught me faith better than the many teachers I have had because his always strong faith led me to a better life.

Kevin, you will not be forgotten and the path you have led me too makes me eternally grateful for your public trials.

God bless Healey family, your son is right up there with the Saints now.
